Step into the hauntingly beautiful world of Mel·lif·lu·ous with her latest track, "Spákonufell". This track was born during an artist residency in the remote town of Skagastrond, Iceland, where she woke up each day to the breathtaking sight of the Spákonufell mountain. Crafted in the icy confines of an old fish factory, the single reflects the solitude and grandeur of the Icelandic landscapes.
Spákonufell is a melody that transcends both geographical boundaries and time and space.
The violin loop, was meticulously composed in the icy embrace of an old fish factory in Iceland, bringing to life the raw beauty of its surroundings.
Dylan, a sculptor, ventured into the Icelandic landscape to capture the essence of the land, conducting interviews that added depth and feel. His recordings provide a sonic backdrop that transports you to the very heart of our residency.
Anne, penned the lyrics on a plane home to Scotland, weaving together a narrative that invites you to embark on a journey of self-discovery and reflection.
At its core, Spákonufell is an ode to the majestic mountain that graced our mornings with its awe-inspiring presence, a constant reminder of the boundless beauty that surrounds us.
Explore the realms of dreams and self-discovery through this evocative soundscape of music. Spákonufell invites you to lose yourself in its haunting melodies, bridging time and space to create an unforgettable listening experience.
Special thanks to NES Artist Residency (neslist.is) for their generous support in providing access to their captivating town of Skagatrönd in Iceland and its inspiring creative spaces.
When we look at landscape, we do not see what is there, but largely what we think is there
You think about the landscape a lot
One day there's white mountains, and one day it's grey, green and black
Something majestic and magical about them
I can see why people thought, you know, maybe gods lived up by that
I imagine myself on top of the mountain, opening the treasure chest and signing the book
As if it were me, I need you
A dragon out of the dream, out of the sand, out of the sea
You can see how they have personalities too, I think
And how different mountains probably have different personalities
I guess if they were people, they would be interesting people, because they don't stay the same
You know, they're not boring
When I see mountains, I don't hear any sound
I hear, I feel a presence, and it's very quiet
Out of the sand, out of the sea
Out of a dream, as if it were me
Out of the sand, out of the sea
Out of a dream, as if it were me
We made a map and we fell off
The roads are gone, we're lost
Yeah, I try not to sort of type people, including myself
And so it does strike me as strange that I have apparently such a strong identification with not climbing mountains
So mountain, I guessed. It's mountain, it's high, whatever
But you have these mountains, you have these similar sorts of depths in the sea
I just think it's like the upside down. It's like the other side of things
Out of the sand, out of the sea
Out of a dream, as if it were me
Out of the sand, out of the sea
Out of a dream, as if it were me
The sky, open wide
Stars in your eyes
Maybe you're the dragon
Maybe you are the tree
People who have some kind of intense emotion or trauma
However, that trauma sometimes somehow gets transformed into the actual form of the mountain
And then they become the mountain
My friend has buried her husband
She was an artist, so she made a picture of it afterwards
He's there, in the mountain
That's very sweet
And she had cats
She also took them there
Together with him
So it's nice
